Vowel Counter
Count English A, E, I, O and U vowels, other A–Z letters, and the vowel-to-consonant ratio.
About the Vowel Counter
Count vowels and consonants in English text using the letters A through Z. The vowel counter groups A, E, I, O and U without regard to case, shows each vowel frequency, and reports the vowel percentage and raw vowel-to-consonant ratio. Y is always counted as a consonant. Accented letters and non-Latin scripts are excluded, so this is a letter-counting tool rather than a pronunciation or linguistic analysis.
Features
- Counts A, E, I, O and U case-insensitively

Frequently asked questions
Is Y counted as a vowel?
No. Y is always a consonant in this tool, even in words such as myth. It does not analyze pronunciation.
Are accented vowels included?
No. This counter uses A–Z English letters. Accented letters, digits and punctuation do not contribute to the totals.
What does a ratio of 2:3 mean?
There are two counted vowels for three counted consonants. The ratio reports the raw counts; it is not a writing-quality score.
Using the results
Accurate counting is only useful if it is instant and trustworthy. The Vowel Counter updates as you type and runs entirely in your browser, so even long documents are measured in real time and your text is never uploaded, logged, or shared.
