About the Letter to Number Converter
Our free letter-to-number converter turns letters into their position in the alphabet, so A becomes 1, B becomes 2, and so on through Z as 26. Type or paste any word, name, or sentence and the tool maps each letter to its number instantly. This simple A1Z26 cipher is a favorite for classroom math and spelling activities, escape-room and puzzle design, geocaching clues, gematria-style word values, and basic coded messages between friends. It is also handy for generating numeric seeds from words or teaching kids how letter substitution works. The conversion runs entirely in your browser and updates the moment you type, so there is no waiting, no signup, and nothing you enter is ever sent to a server.
