JSON Stringify/Unstringify
Escape plain text as a JSON string, or parse a JSON string back into readable text. JavaScript code is never evaluated.
About the JSON Stringify/Unstringify
Stringify wraps plain text as a valid JSON string, escaping quotes, backslashes and line breaks. Unstringify parses valid JSON: a string becomes readable text, while an object or array is formatted with the selected indentation. JavaScript object literals with unquoted keys are not JSON and are not executed. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
What does Stringify do?
It treats your input as text and encodes it as a JSON string, with quotes and escaped special characters. It never runs code.
What does Unstringify do?
It parses valid JSON. A JSON string becomes plain text; an object or array is shown as formatted JSON.
Can I paste a JavaScript object literal?
Unquoted keys and JavaScript expressions are not accepted as JSON. Use JSON with double-quoted keys, or choose Stringify to escape the literal text.
Using the results
Developers and power users need tools that are exact and private. The JSON Stringify/Unstringify runs its logic locally in your browser, returns results instantly, and never transmits your input — handy when you are working with keys, hashes, or data you would rather not paste into a remote service.
